Antimony trioxide: white or gray orthorhombic or equiaxed crystalline powder. It turns yellow when heated and turns white or gray when cooled. Density5.2g/cm3, Melting point656℃, Boiling point1550℃ (sublimation), below 557℃ is stable orthorhombic system, above 557℃ is stable equiaxed crystal system. Soluble in hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, sodium sulfide, tartaric acid, acetic acid, concentrated sulfuric acid, concentrated nitric acid, insoluble in water, alcohol, dilute sulfuric acid. is an amphoteric oxide. It is reduced to metal antimony by solid carbon or carbon monoxide, hydrogen and other gases at low temperature.
Application:
- Used as a flame retardant for various resins, synthetic rubber, canvas, paper, coatings, etc., as a catalyst for petrochemicals and synthetic fibers. It is used in the manufacture of mordant and opalescent agent, and is the raw material for the synthesis of antimony salts. The enamel industry is used as an additive to increase the opacity and surface gloss of enamel. The glass industry is used as a decolorizing agent in place of arsenous acid. Medicine, metallurgy, military, etc.
- Antimony trioxide is an additive flame retardant, and is often used in combination with other flame retardants and smoke suppressants, and each component can produce a synergistic effect. In the early stage of combustion, antimony trioxide first melts, forms a protective film on the surface of the material to isolate the air, and reduces the combustion temperature through an internal endothermic reaction. Antimony trioxide is vaporized at high temperature, which dilutes the oxygen concentration in the air, thereby playing a flame retardant effect.
- The amount of commonly used polycondensation catalyst in the polycondensation of ethylene terephthalate is about 0.03%. It is also used as a flame retardant for various resins, synthetic rubber canvas, paper, coatings, etc. Antimony trioxide is also a good masking agent and is used as a white paint pigment. It is used in the manufacture of mordant and opalescent agent, and it is also the raw material for the synthesis of antimony salt. It is used as a decolorizing agent in the glass industry instead of arsenous acid.
- Used in fire retardant coatings, pigments, enamels and glass industries and in the preparation of antimony potassium tartrate. Also used as a mordant.
- Antimony trioxide is the earliest flame retardant, suitable for epoxy resin, polyurethane, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polyester, etc. When used alone, the flame retardant effect is low, and when used in combination with halogen compounds, it has a good synergistic effect, and the flame retardant effect is significantly improved. It is also used in the manufacture of enamel glazes, pigments, medicines, mordants, etc. In addition, it is also used as a catalyst in the petrochemical and synthetic fiber industries, and as a decolorizing agent to replace arsenous acid in the glass industry.
